Since opening in 2011, our goal has been to offer our customers a unique and fun thrift store shopping experience where every purchase benefits homeless dogs and cats. Our store is bright, organized and fun! All items are donated so every visit is a treasure hunt – you never know what kind of goodies you’ll find – and new items are added daily. At Second Life, you will find everything from antiques to vintage to brand new items. Get consignment store quality at thrift store prices

You’ll find our store is geared to the bargain shopper and animal lovers- with fun animal motifs painted on the back wall, rescue and shelter information posted throughout the store – and our Chief Smile Officer, Riley, roaming the store and looking for a good ear scratch. greyhound - meet greet flier with border june2016When:  Saturday, June 18 from 12-2pm
Where:  Main Store or outside

Meet adorable retired racing greyhounds and their pet parents at the Southeastern Greyhound Adoption (SEGA)

Meet and Greet event on Saturday, June 18 from 12-2pm.

Learn about adopting this wonderful breed...many who are big couch potatoes and are just looking for soft beds to spend their days.  Did you know they don't need a lot of space or a lot of exercise, even though they are big dogs?

Since the commotion can be a bit overwhelming for the dogs that aren't used to it...the dogs up for adoption won't be coming, but you can meet volunteers with the rescue and learn about the dogs waiting for forever homes.

Come out and support their rescue efforts even if you're not looking to adopt.  Smiles guaranteed!

Paws - foster KBB may2016

Meet Ms. KBB!  She loves humans and affection.

When: Until she is adopted
Where:  In our Furniture, Decor & More store

Adopt Love! Ms. Kiddybomboms is a 6-year-old sweetheart who's ready for a place to call home. We can't believe she has been waiting since February in our store and still hasn't been adopted. She adores people - especially snuggling on shoulders - and would be a great buddy for someone living alone.

She would probably do best in a home without other pets, or calm ones that would leave her alone, as she seems to wants all the attention to herself. Ms. KBB up for adoption through PAWS Atlanta, and you can meet her in our Furniture, Décor and More store. She's already spayed, vaccinated, micro-chipped and combo tested. All she needs now is her own family.

We will be deciding soon whether her forever family will find her at our store, or whether her luck will change by going back to the shelter. Our main goal is her happiness and for her to find her forever home.

divider dadada gray1Adopt Love!  From Egypt to Atlanta...

Where:  In a PAWS Atlanta foster home
When:  Until adopted!

PAWS - haboob may2016Meet Haboob...a silly, loving street dog from Egypt who has been given a second chance at life!  Rescued off the streets of Cairo with an injured front paw, it was obvious when we met him at the ESMA shelter in March that he adored people. He couldn't get enough love and snuggled with anyone who would let him (including me!).

Haboob is now up for adoption through PAWS Atlanta.  He's about 2 years old, 30 lbs. and looks like a tiny German Shepherd. As you can see in his pictures, he loves the life of comfort!  He is a happy go-lucky-dog who seems to know he's hit the jackpot!
From his foster mom:  Haboob is the friendliest, most loving PAWS Atlanta foster dog we've ever had in our home.  Haboob gets along perfectly with our dogs, but can be leash-reactive on walks. With a little positive training, that would not be an issue. He gets along with his foster dog sister...but snuggling with people is his first love!

Haboob has a damaged front paw from an injury now years-old. It cannot be surgically-repaired because the nerve was permanently damaged when the injury went untreated. He hops when he walks and it's pretty darn adorable. His sole goal in life is to snuggle with you. He cannot get enough of you.

Please help him find the life he deserves!

We believe rescue knows no boundaries.  If we can help an animal in need, we will, no matter where they were born.  Their lives matter just as much as the lives of those dogs and cats lucky enough to be born in a culture that adores pets.

The Egyptian mixed breeds have zero chances of getting adopted in Egypt.  Their culture does not embrace pets, especially not the street dogs and cats.  The shelters and rescuers give their hearts and lives to making a difference with little support or cultural approval.  They rely on help from abroad to give these amazing animals a chance at being loved, and we are happy to help when we can.

Thank you to both rescues, ESMA in Egypt and PAWS in Atlanta, for giving him a second chance at life.

We are looking for more rescues who would be able to help.  If you are a rescue and would be willing to give other Egyptian dogs or cats a second chance at life, please contact me at  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. divider dadada gray1Over $650,000 in Grants to Animal Rescue Charities!

altThank you - grant animals may2016Thanks to you...Second Life has donated almost over $665,000 in grants to animal charities since our doors opened 5 years ago!

Your support has helped dogs and cats get needed medical care and life-saving surgeries, has helped families be a part of the solution by sponsoring their spay and neuter and has helped women fleeing domestic violence keep their pets safe until they are back on their feet...and more.

Every one of you plays key role in helping us give homeless pets a second chance at life.   Like pieces to a puzzle...we couldn't do any of this without all of you.

Part of the Solution!

Reducing the number of unwanted pets from being born is a big part of our focus - there are simply not enough homes.  To date, we have provided more than $230,000 to organizations specifically for spay & neuter grants of family pets and trap/neuter/return (TNR) of feral cats.

image - spay neuter multiply may2014At an average of $75-90 per procedure, this means you have helped between 2,550 to 3,065 dogs and cats take the "no mommy" and "no daddy" pledge.

We know there are many people that want to do the right thing but simply can't afford it...and we are happy to help!

You are the reason for our success!

We couldn't do it without all of you.  It takes teamwork from our customers, donors, volunteers and employees. Every person plays such an important role in our success in being able to help animal rescue organizations give homeless pets a second chance at life.

When you shop at our store, you are shopping for a higher purpose. Not only do you find great treasures at bargain prices, but you also give hope to homeless pets. When you clean out your closets to donate, you make a difference.  It's such an easy way to help!

2016 grant logos collageYour purchases have helped with:

  • Spaying & neutering of animals before they are adopted - to stop the cycle!
  • Offering low cost spaying & neutering to family pets
  • Vetting costs of animals brought into rescue
  • Boarding of beloved pets who are affected by domestic abuse in the home
  • Education promoting the human-animal bond
  • Promoting pit bull awareness and education
  • Rescuing animals from high-kill shelters
  • And more!

More than 40 animal charities have benefited from Second Life and we hope to be able to continue to help others as we grow.

divider dadada gray1Fostering Saves Lives!

Both of our Chief Smile Officers, Riley and Lucky, were our foster dogs. We had no intention of keeping either dog, but once they found their way into our hearts, weimage - foster homes wanted aug2015 knew they were home.

This is usually the first thing I hear from people when I talk to them about foster.  "I could never give them up" or "I would keep every one."  My answer is always along the lines of "I would rather cry tears of joy knowing they have a forever home than tears of sorrow knowing they never had a chance to get out of the shelter." It's the absolute truth.

We understand...it's hard not to fall in love with an animal quickly as they are so loving.  Fostering is one of the most rewarding things we have ever done and will ever do.

We post information about fostering often because we are such strong believers in its power to save lives.

Types of fosters needed include:

  • Long-term - cruelty cases, military deployment, harder to place pets (special needs, shy, seniors, etc)
  • Short-term - 2-3 weeks until the animal transported to rescues in the Northeast US
  • Medical Care - pets recovering from heartworm treatment, medical procedures, mange...any medical needs.
  • Mama's and babies - moms and their puppies or kittens who are too young to be adopted
  • Happy, healthy dogs and cats - adorable, healthy dogs and cats (and other types of animals) who need a place to crash until their forever families find them
Every once in a while, you find a pet that is a perfect fit for your family and that steals your heart...and you become what is known as a "foster failure." And that's ok! For more information on fostering, visit our website.  For a list of groups looking for fosters, click here
